WRA November 2013 Newletter

This is the second newsletter of the 2013-14 season.

THE EXPO AT THE COSMOPOLITAN CLUB / TTS / LTTS Many thanks to all for the great support to these initiatives that are getting people shooting and out at the range. We had close to 50 people wanting to have a go at Trentham after the Expo. The first planned Try Target Shooting was postponed due to weather. Twenty eight people came to the morning we held on Saturday 19 October. We had a great turn out of helpers and they and the warm weather helped to give those attending a good experience. We need to run another morning for those still wanting to have a go soon. At the first morning of the LTTS on Sat 2 November we had four people shooting who are keen to keep going and learn to shoot. The best thing about the Saturday morning sessions is there is plenty of time to give the new shooters the attention they need.

MORNING TRAINING SHOOTS AT 500 YARDS They are planned for Sat 30 November, Sat 14 December and Sat 21 December. These days were planned for people training for the 2015 World Champs. We need to know if people are going to use this opportunity. Please get back to Kevin Win, win_family@xtra.co.nz , or wink7513@gmail.com if you are going to attend. The first weekend will double as the 4th LTTS for the current group.

SPRING MEETING We shoot 10 shots at 500 / 600 / 800 and 900 yards on Saturday 16 November. Entry is $45 for A, B, C, FTR and F Open and $30 for Tyros. Shooting starts at 9am. The flags will be out but we will need Wellington members to get the markers to the butts and the targets for the day into the butts. Shooters squad themselves, get there early if you need to be squadded with your coach or if you are sharing rifles. Entries will be taken by Kevin down on the range.

The William and Adams Team shoot is on the Sunday morning. It starts after a briefing at 9am. Teams of four fire 7 shots to count at 800, 900 and 1000 yards.

7/8 DECEMBER at TRENTHAM Saturday 7 December is the Ladies Longs, 10 shot shoots at 800, 900 and 1000yds. It is run by the ladies, but we all shoot. Sunday 8 December is the National 1000yds run by Karori with two ten shot shoots and a fifteen shot shoot at 1000yds.

TWO COMPETITIONS OF NEIGHBOURING CLUBS WE SHOULD SUPPORT Saturday 28 December at Cheltenham, shooting is 10 shots at 300, 500 and 600 yards.
Thursday 6 December (Waitangi Day) at Brancepeth, Masterton. Shooting is 10 shots at 800, 900 and 1000 yards.

MARKERS FOR NRA Please ensure your club markers know that application forms for jobs at NRA are on the nranz.com website.

WORKING BEES We need a working bee to clean out the trench. When we have a clearer idea of activities in December we will set a date for this. Start time will be 9.am. The more people who make it to help, the less time it will take to complete. Bring brooms, flat bottom shovels, shovels and spades. Wear footwear that will cope with water.

THURSDAY 9 JAN, 9 A.M., AT THE NRA TARGET SHED, TO GET THE TARGETS TO THE BUTTS for the national champs. We need at least two people from each club. Please put the date in your diary.

WELLINGTON RIFLE ASSOCIATION OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS SUNDAY 12 JANUARY 2014 The Championship is made up of 10 shot shoots at 300, 600, 800 and 900 yards. Entry details will be available on the web, when they are organised. We are holding a WRA Executive meeting on Thursday 7 November and details should be available after that.

WRA TEAM SHOOTS AT NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION CHAMPIONSHIPS The WRA enters teams in two competitions during the NRA Champs.
The first shoot is the Districts Teams Match over the Belt Series. There is no need to nominate for this team as it is selected from WRA members entering the competition. The match uses the totals scored by the shooters, who are selected, over the 10 matches of the belt series.

The second shoot is a coached districts team’s match on Friday 17 January in the afternoon. Team members fire 10 shoots to count at 900 and 1000 yards. Please let your club selector know if you are available. The WRA pays the entry fees for these matches. We will enter as many teams as needed for WRA members shooting.

WRA SELECTORS The selectors are: Onslow, Kevin Win. Karori, Nicole McKee, Upper Hutt Roger Wait, Petone Jon Phillipps.

ROPES ON THE FLAG POLES Please wrap the rope around the pole once when you have raised the flag to the top of the pole. This stops the rope from flapping against the pole and fraying. Also do this when you have taken the flag down, before securing the rope to the pole.

WRA TEAM MEMBERS NEEDED FOR COMPETITIONS AT KIWITEA AND KAITUNA-BLENHEIM The Inter Districts Teams Match will be held at Kiwitea Range on Sunday 2 March 2014. We will enter as many teams as needed to accommodate all members who make themselves available. We will also have a mixed F Open / FTR team competing for the Field Shield.

The Quadrangular Teams Match will be held at Kaituna – Blenheim on Sunday 27 April 2014, we will enter as many teams as needed to accommodate all members who make themselves available. Let you club selector know if you are available.

CHRISTMAS SHOOT Saturday 21 December has been designated our Christmas shoot. Father Christmas will be in attendance after shooting. If you have presents for children please ensure they are wrapped and labelled clearly. This year we have planned a shared pot luck meal for all clubs in the Petone Clubrooms.

THE DICK TRAVIS VC TROPHY SHOOT This shoot with .303s is planned for Sat 22 and Sun 23 March 2014.
