Club Level
Each Saturday over the shooting season we shoot a different range from 300 yards to 1000 yards. We shoot two strings (two convertible sighting shots and 10 shots to count)
We have a number of competitions within the club, competing for a range of trophies within each grade. The main competitions are:
Regional/ National Competitions
There are a number of matches held throughout NZ over the season. Petone Rifle Club members travel to many of these competitions
National Championship
The New Zealand National Rifle Championship meeting is held over a week in early January every year. This is the largest Fullbore competition held in NZ and many overseas competitors attend. The Ballinger Belt is shot for; this is the oldest sporting trophy in New Zealand, and this has been held by Petone Rifle Club members a good number of times. In fact the famous Ballinger Belt is named after a past Petone member!
Internationals and Commonwealth Games
Representing your country in a team target rifle shooting as an Under 25 shooter, a Veteran, a Ladies team member or a New Zealand team member is a huge honour, and shooting for New Zealand in the Commonwealth games is the ultimate goal of any competition shooter. We have had Petone members shooting their first season who have shot in New Zealand teams
