The Petone Rifle Club again organized and ran the annual Hawkes Bay Championship held on the Seddon Range at Trentham, Upper Hutt.

The Club Members were again prominent with Helen Freiman runner up in the Championship a close second to Mike Collings from Te Puke the current Commonwealth Games Pairs Gold Medalist. Club President Rick Fincham closely followed in 3rd place.
The B Grade was won by club member Barry Scott from another member Ray Vine.
The highlight of the Championship for the Club though was the winning of the Coached Teams Match, the 'Collins Shield' This is contested for by a team of five shooters firing seven counting shots at 300, 500 and 600yds in the final Match of the Championship.
The Team members were Helen, Jonno, Ray, Rick and Andre with Andre, coached by Rick being the top individual scorer with 105.14 from a possible 105.21
This Shield is the second most prestigious Club Team Trophy in the New Zealand shooting calendar with the District Challange Shield for 'New Zealand Champion Club Team' shot for duing the National Championships being the number one. The Petone Club also have this Trophy secured this season.
The PRC also won the Onga Onga Cup for the long range teams match and the shorts and grand concurrent team events. A Top performance!
