WRA Newsletter - Aug 2014

WELLINGTON RIFLE ASSOCIATION - AUGUST 2014 NEWSLETTER

This is the first newsletter of the 2014-15 season from the WRA.
All the best for your new season of shooting.

OPENING DAY: Opening Day is Saturday 13 September. Our Patron, Mayor Wayne Guppy, our local MP, Chris Hipkins and the Camp Commandant, Graeme Tod will attend the opening and have a small shooting competition.

SEASON PROGRAMME: A copy of the programme for the season will be sent with this newsletter, it has some alterations from the one you were emailed earlier. It includes the club’s duty dates. TRENTHAM RIFLE CLUB: Upper Hutt and Onslow clubs have formally joined as one club. They will be called Trentham Rifle Club.

TARGET ALLOCATIONS FOR THE SEASON: Petone will use targets 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 Trentham will use targets 37, 38, 39, 40 Karori will use 41, 42, 43

SIGHTING IN RIFLES: This is able to be done at 300yards only. The rifle should be bore sighted first and then shot at the target with a spotter beside the shooter on the mound and in the butts. You will note that the opportunities for this to happen have been marked in the shooting programme and dates are available across the season.

500 YARD TRAINING MORNINGS: These days have been put in the programme for shooters to practice for the World Champs in USA in 2015. The training activities though would be good for anyone to take part in. If you are interested in taking part contact Jon Phillipps, Andre Doyle or Kevin Win. There will need to be targets and markers available, so we will need to know beforehand that you will be there. As with LTTS mornings other people wanting to shoot at the same time are welcome, the duty club will need to know it is going to happen.

WRA AGM: This will be held at 10am on Saturday 4 October in the Trentham clubrooms. It would be good to see you there.

TRY TARGET SHOOTING (TTS) - LEARN TO TARGET SHOOT (LTTS): There is no expo at the Cossie Club this year. We have used these in the last two seasons to make contact with people who would like to try the sport. We will need to rely on word of mouth and contact from the NRA, WRA and club websites. The dates are below. If you know someone who wants to try the sport, these mornings are a good way to introduce new people. Instruction will be given and the focus is on looking after individuals. It isn’t always as easy to look after new people on club days.

DATES OF TTS AND LTTS
TTS Sat 11 Oct 8.30am
LTTS Sat 18 Oct 8.30am, LTTS members would then shoot with clubs on Sat afternoons starting on Sat 1 Nov
TTS Sat 22 Nov 8.30am
LTTS Sat 29 Nov 8.30am, LTTS members would then shoot with clubs on Sat afternoons starting on Sat 13 Dec
TTS Sat 14 Feb 8.30am
LTTS Sat 21 Feb 8.30am, LTTS members would then shoot with clubs on Sat afternoons starting on Sat 7 March

WRA CODE OF CONDUCT: This is included for all members information.
CODE OF CONDUCT FOR MEMBERS OF THE WELLINGTON RIFLE ASSOCIATION We need to ensure that the climate and culture within shooting at Trentham will attract people of all life experiences and attitudes. We need a code of conduct to state the way we want people to behave to ensure that we have an appropriate culture
All members of the Association and visitors shall be bound by this Code of Conduct:
 It is a privilege to be able to use firearms on the Trentham Range; we need to show we value that right by following all safety rules and providing a positive public image as firearm owners
 We shoot to have fun and ensure that others have fun competing with us by respecting the rules and regulations of NRANZ (Inc)
 Everyone should be treated with consideration and respect and we need to consider others in the way we act and talk
 We need to care for the range and the clubroom compound by looking after the environment..

See you on 13 September
Trevor Oliver WRA President
